A Ministry for Couples Looking to Strengthen Their Marriage

From Brad Hubbard's pulpit talk introducing MAC...

"...I’m here today to talk to all of the married couples of the parish. I want you to think back to your wedding day. Picture in your mind how beautiful that day was. You each made your vows to each other and to God 'until death do us part.' Fast forward a few years and add some children to the family mix. The pressures seem to increase daily and you probably feel you are being pulled in a hundred different directions. It becomes harder and harder to spend quality time with your spouse.

"I’d like to help give you some answers. There is a new ministry beginning at St. Peter Chanel called Marriages are Covenants (MAC for short). MAC is designed to help define the Sacrament of Matrimony as a sacred covenant between God and the husband and wife. The ministry will meet monthly on a Saturday evening to help give couples of our parish tools from a Catholic perspective to enrich their marriage.

"...This ministry is open to all married couples of the parish who are seeking guidance and support to help better their relationship. Couples are encouraged to attend together if at all possible."

Monthly Meetings At the Church During the School Year

Typical format of monthly parish meetings:

• 6:30pm - Fellowship and a light meal
• 7:00pm - Evening Program Begins
• Opening Prayer and Brief Introductory Comments (Chaplain and Ministry Leaders)
• Principal Speaker gives spiritual talk (Usually a priest or deacon)
• Brief period of silent reflection on the talk
• Breakout table discussions
• Lay Presentation (usually a practical application on the principal spiritual talk)
• Question and Answer Period
• 9:00pm - Concluding Prayer

Father Brian Higgins to be main speaker at October 18th Meeting of Mac

The second monthly program for 2008-09 will be on October 18th in the new choir room on the second floor. Beverages and light snacks will be provided beginning at 6:30pm with the program to start at 7:00pm. Watch this space for new details!

Father Brian will deliver the main spiritual talk on The Four Loves:

• storge - affection
• philia - friendship
• eros - romatic love
• agape - charity (caritas) or selfless, benevolent love, ie, the way God loves

You will want to invite all your friends to attend. The room is large and can easily accomodate a large crowd.

MAC Small Faith Groups Meet in Members' Homes

The small faith groups met in members' homes over the summer, studying and discussing the Five Love Languages by Dr. Gary Chapman. If you would like to join one of the small faith groups, please contact Deacon Mike Bickerstaff.
