When a family member dies, their death inevitably brings deep sadness because it separates us from our loved ones. This is not only a time of mourning, but also a time of confusion and stress, as we are faced with planning a funeral and burial.
St. Peter Chanel’s clergy and staff are here to help walk families through this journey. The first step is to call a member of the clergy and notify them of the death. That clergy member will help you set a date and time for a Funeral Mass, and may ask you to meet with him or a member of his staff to finalize details of readings and music. The funeral home you choose will handle the details of burial at area cemeteries and we will work closely with them as plans are made.
Your loved one may have expressed their wishes regarding traditional burial or cremation prior to their death, or you may be faced with making this decision on their behalf. The Archdiocese of Atlanta’s Office of Divine Worship has helpful information to guide you in this decision making process.
For more information on funeral planning, please contact Debi Moore at 678-832-1222.
Whether you wish to have prayers said for someone who has died, someone who is ill, or someone who is celebrating a special occasion such as a birthday or anniversary, Mass Cards are an excellent way to show that you care. When you arrange for a Mass Card at St. Peter Chanel, you are choosing a specific date and time on which your friend or loved one will be remembered and prayed for at Mass.
Mass cards are available at the Reception Desk on Monday through Friday between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., Saturday between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. and Sunday between 8:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. Masses are usually booked several months in advance, so if you have a particular date or time in mind, it is very important that you make arrangements well in advance.
For more information about scheduling a Mass Intention, please contact Lu Jankowski at 678-277-9424.
There are several ways to request prayers for you or for a loved one.
First, we have a very active Prayer Chain Ministry whose members pray each day for those special requests. You can email your prayer request to prayerchain@stpeterchanel.org. If you are not currently a member of the prayer chain, you may include a request to be added to the email distribution with your prayer request.
Second, you can have your name or the name of a loved one experiencing illness or other need included in the prayer list in our bulletin by contacting our bulletin editor, Elyse Erwin at 678-832-1233. The bulletin prayer list is cleared the first week of each month, so if your need continues, you will need to email Elyse at bulletin@stpeterchanel.org or call again to keep that name included for the next month. Also, if a member of your immediate family has passed away, you can have their name included in the Prayers of the Faithful during Sunday Masses and mentioned in the bulletin.
You may also wish to also request a Mass Intention for living or deceased persons. Please read the above "How to Request a Mass Intention" for more information.
Anointing of the Sick: If you or someone in your family is about to have surgery or undergo a medical procedure, you may call one of the priests to set up an appointment to receive the Anointing of the Sick before surgery. Should you have a family member in the hospital who wishes to receive the Anointing of the Sick, please contact the Parish Office at 678-277-9424. Due to current privacy laws, hospitals can no longer ask your religious affiliation, so please remember to let us know if a family member is hospitalized.
Catholics Come Home
A Ministry of Compassion and Reconciliation
We are so glad you or someone you know may be interested in reconnecting with the Catholic Church. Please know that you are welcome at St. Peter Chanel.
If you are a Catholic who has been away from the Church for a while, for whatever reason, this invitation is for you! Our faith community misses you and is incomplete without you! No matter how long you have been away, for whatever reason, we invite you to consider renewing your relationship with the Catholic Church.
The trademark of St. Peter Chanel’s warmth and hospitality is found in the members of our parish family who embrace their stewardship of time and talent, giving back to God through volunteerism. You are encouraged to add your gifts by filling out a time and talent pledge form, which is attached to the New Parishioner Registration Form in our Welcome Packet, and is also available for download here. Once your completed pledge form is received, your information is sent to the appropriate Ministry Leaders who contact all new parishioners to welcome them and answer any questions. This should take just a couple of weeks.
Please visit the SPC Ministries pages of our website for more information and a complete directory of St. Peter Chanel’s many vibrant ministries, organizations and religious education. If you have an interest in a specific Ministry, you may also contact the Ministry Leader directly through the Ministry Hotline number or email address listed within the directory.
For more information about volunteer opportunities, please George Wilson, Stewardship Coordinator, at 678-832-1226.
