Care and Share ministry is at the heart of our parish community. This ministry has two main functions: we strive to help families who are temporarily undergoing a time of illness or other stressful situation by providing evening meals. We also provide a luncheon for family and friends to share as they comfort one another following a funeral. This permits the community of St. Peter Chanel to truly be a family!

The Mission Ministry offers free food, medical supplies and our volunteers’ service and support to the neediest of the needy – for the abandoned and unwanted who are unable to take care of themselves. To this end, we currently offer two pilgrimages to the slums of Kingston, Jamaica to help in mission homes run by Mustard Seed and The Missionaries of the Poor. On these working retreats, our volunteers encounter Christ through literally feeding the poor, giving them drink, bathing them and clothing them. (Matthew 25) As part of St. Peter Chanel’s preparation for Thanksgiving and Advent, we also organize the FEED HAITI food drive in support of the brothers of The Missionaries of the Poor in the slums of Cap-Haitien, Haiti. This donation of food feeds all 200 in their care for two months, and provides about 1000 extra meals of rice and beans for those who come to them each week, begging for food.

The Pro-Life Ministry promotes the Church’s sanctity of life doctrine in four ways: (1) through prayer and worship, (2) public information and education, (3) pastoral care and (4) public policy. Each month, we pray a rosary during the Marian Holy Hour for Pro-Life intentions. We have monthly ministry meetings at which we invite guest speakers to discuss Pro-Life issues. We participate in both the annual “Life Chain” outside the Cathedral of Christ the King and the Mass for the Unborn at Immaculate Heart Church in Atlanta. We also collect and deliver baby items to crisis pregnancy centers. Our goal is to work for an end to abortion and to promote the dignity of human life from conception to natural death.

The Shrine of the Immaculate Conception homeless shelter provides dinner and overnight housing from November 1 through March 31. Our ministry commits to about 10 nights per year and provides dinners, bag lunches, and overnight chaperones. Volunteers can participate in any of these activities, from meal preparation, food delivery and serving, making lunches, and spending the night at the shelter. This is a wonderful opportunity for families, church groups, PSR classes, or teen groups.

We are the St. Vincent de Paul society serving the 30075 (Roswell) area, but, on occasion, assisting in adjacent areas when we are made aware of an unmet need. We seek to find the forgotten, the suffering or the deprived so that we may bring them Jesus’ love. We provide our time, counseling, and, through the boundless generosity of our parish family, financial aid in this mission of charity.
