Encountering Christ in the least of our brothers near and far

The Mission Ministry at St. Peter Chanel was founded in 2002. Our goal is to present many different opportunities for fellow parishioners to come to know Christ better through various experiences both local and overseas. We attempt to offer “something for everyone” whether a parishioner’s available time, talent or resources are vast or very limited. We believe, through involvement with the poor, we can all come to know, love and serve Christ in a deeper way.

Our ministry offers free food, medical supplies and our volunteers’ service and support on behalf of St. Peter Chanel to the needy locally, and the neediest of the needy in Jamaica and Haiti – to those who would die without our help.

To this end, the Mission Ministry currently offers several pilgrimages (4-day to 1-week long) to the slums of Kingston and Montego Bay, Jamaica. Our volunteers travel to Kingston to help in mission homes run by:

On these working retreats, our volunteers encounter Christ through literally feeding the poor, giving them drink, bathing them and clothing them. (Matthew 25)

As part of St. Peter Chanel’s preparation for Thanksgiving and Advent, we also organize the FEED HAITI food drive. In this program, our parishioners donate enough food to fill a 40-foot container, which we ship to the brothers of ‘The Missionaries of the Poor’ in the slums of Cap-Haitien, Haiti. There they house, feed and care for 200 crippled, disabled and destitute children and adults. This donation of food will feed all 200 in their care for two months, plus provide about a thousand extra meals of rice and beans to those who come to beg for food from them each week.

Locally our members seek God where he is already working – namely in already established successful ministries such as St Francis table and The Shrine overnight shelter in downtown Atlanta. We are also currently investigating several local Roswell based ministries to see if Christ is present and if they need our help.
