"Where We Are Family!"
Children's Liturgy of the Word is a planned program to enrich our children's
liturgical experience experience of God's presence in the ritual proclamation of the Word.
We emphasize liturgical in contrast to catechetical.
It is through ritual itself-the activity of gestures, movement, singing, as well as quietly sitting or standing in a reflective posture listening to God's Word proclaimed and to the Spirit within us that we are brought closer to God.
When?
St. Peter Chanel offers Children's Liturgy of the Word at both the 9:00 am and 10:45 am. Mass most Sundays of the year.
Where?
The children (ages 4 through 4th grade) are dismissed from the Church after the Opening Prayer and process to the Chapel. Children return to
their parents during the Offertory. No registration is required.
Why?
The Liturgy of the Word is celebrated and ritualized at a level of understanding appropriate for children's ages,
developmental capabilities, and spiritual needs. The primary purpose of the celebration of the Liturgy of the WOrd for Children is
the experience of worship and prayer.
Growth in the faith will naturally flow from this ritual as the Word just proclaimed is examined, explained, and connected to the life experiences of the children.
What is involved for those who volunteer?
Teams of Lay Adult Volunteers of the parish facilitate the Liturgy of the Word with Children.
Each team of four to five adults serves
at one mass each month. Each team is paired with a staff coordinator who helps in planning and provides live
music for the liturgy.
