First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion

Eucharist The Archdiocese requires that children preparing for the Sacraments of First Reconciliation and First Communion attend Foundational Religious Education for two years, beginning in the first grade. Children and parents also participate in Sacramental Formation during the second year. Children who turn 7 by September 1, 2010 and have completed first grade Formational Religious Education may begin to prepare to celebrate the two sacraments in the spring of 2011.

Special programs (see section "Sacraments for Older Children") are avaiable for children who are in grade 2 or higher and have no previous religious education.

Confirmation

Holy Spirit The Archdiocese has set 10th grade as the year for the Sacrament of Confirmation to be celebrated. In order to be confirmed, youth must be active particpants in foundational religious education which consists of either a parish sponsored religious education program (PSR) or Catholic School attendance. Youth also particpate in formational preparation which is only offered through the parish.

Religious education is a vital component for Confirmation Preparation. According to Archdiocesean Guidelines, all candidates preparing for Confirmation must maintain 80% attendance. Notices are sent to those whose attendance approaches the 80% mark. If you receive a notice of attendace, please contact the Confirmation Coordinator at your earliest convenience to remediate the situation.

Sacraments for Older Children and Youth

Baptism, First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion

Children in grade 2 or older who have not yet celebrated the sacraments of Baptism, First Reconciliation, or First Holy Communion or have no previous Religious Education should contact Rosemary Potts, Elementary Sacrament Coordinator. Programs are available to prepare your child. These programs vary according to your child's situation.
