PSR → Sacrament Preparation

FIRST PENANCE AND FIRST HOLY COMMUNION

Children who turn 7 by September 1, 2008 and are in the second grade prepare to celebrate these two sacraments in the spring of 2009. The Archdiocese requires that children preparing for these sacraments attend formational religious education for two years. This means that children who plan to celebrate the sacraments in the second grade must also participate in religious education in the first grade. Special programs (see section "Sacraments for Older Children") are available for children who are in grade 3 or higher and have not yet celebrated these sacraments.

CONFIRMATION

The Archdiocese has set 10th grade as the year for the Sacrament of Confirmation to be celebrated. In order to be confirmed, youth must be active particpants in foundational religious education which consists of either a parish sponsored religious education program (PSR) or Catholic School attendance. Youth also particpate in formational preparation which is only offered through the parish.

Religious education is a vital component for Confirmation Preparation. According to Archdiocesean Guidelines, all candidates preparing for Confirmation must maintain 80% attendance. Notices are sent to those whose attendance approaches the 80% mark. If you receive a notice of attendace, please contact the Confirmation Coordinator at your earliest convenience to remediate the situation.

SACRAMENTS FOR OLDER CHILDREN AND YOUTH

Children in grade 3 or older who have not yet celebrated the sacraments of Baptism, First Penance, and First Holy Communion should contact the Director of Religious Education. Programs are available to prepare your child. These programs vary according to your child's situation and previous religious education.
